The sound of the project has naturally developed into an electronic dance, house-esque track. I’m finally satisfied with each of the individual sounds that I’ve created, meaning the next step is to formulate a structure. Due to the track’s high energy and repetitive style the the overall affect depends heavily on strategically building, sustaining and releasing the different parts. The track begins with unedited, original vinyl crackle from the track. Gradually parts are introduced and then withdrawn. In the Ableton arrangement view the structure looks as follows.
In the final version I decided to exclude samples of actual singing from the sample. I’ve chosen leave out singing in the final version because conceptually I like the idea of composing a song out of single vocal sample without ever explicitly revealing the vocal sample itself.
The structure went through several versions. In my first version I began with just 4 on the floor drums kicks, as this is typical of dance music. However, I decided to begin with vinyl because it means that the original track and mine both begin with the identical crackling sound. There are section of the structure that shifted was the breakdown. Eventually I decided to use the rhythmic chords and layer them over each other. This changed the rhythm and created richer texture.
